A nearby garden can be more useful than a distant field

We are particularly interested in city and suburban gardens and accessible commuter areas. A modest plot close to someone's home can be visited regularly and may be more practical than a much larger rural space.

You choose the person

A listing or enquiry is not a booking. You can decline any proposed introduction.

You choose the arrangement

Set a fee, agree a produce share or offer the plot without payment. Homegrown does not set the amount.

You keep control

Define the plot, access hours, permitted activities and season. Retain access and overall control.

Your address stays private

Submit only an approximate area. Contact details are shared only after both adults approve.

How it works

  1. List the basics: approximate area, size, light, water, access and any initial fee or produce expectation.
  2. Review practical details: Homegrown may ask about authority, boundaries, photographs and known hazards.
  3. Consider an enquiry: each adult separately approves or declines a specific proposed introduction.
  4. Meet and inspect: walk the plot, discuss expectations and ask your insurer or broker about the exact arrangement.
  5. Agree directly: sign a personal seasonal plot licence and settle any payment directly with the grower.
Current model: Homegrown provides listings and consent-controlled introductions. It does not certify safety, suitability, planning or insurance and is not a party to the seasonal licence. Optional platform-arranged host liability is being researched but is not active.

Questions people ask before listing

How much space do I need?

There is no fixed minimum. Sunlight, access, water and proximity matter. Start with one clearly marked area that you can comfortably manage.

Will I lose control of my land?

The intended arrangement is personal, seasonal, non-exclusive and non-transferable. The host retains access and overall control. The written terms and the way the arrangement operates should match.

Does listing commit me?

No. A listing starts a conversation. You decide whether to meet or proceed.

What about insurance?

You can list before the insurance answer is final. Before access begins, disclose the exact paid or unpaid arrangement to your home, farm or land insurer or broker and request a written answer. See the insurer call script.

Could your spare space help one local grower?

Join the first ten founding hosts. Pilot listings are free and the initial form does not ask for an exact address.

How an organisation can help

An independent organisation can review the framework, refer an appropriate enquiry, share this drive, link to the anonymised demand report or discuss a written collaboration. Homegrown will not use an organisation's name or logo as a partner without written permission.
